If you loved high school English ... or Shakespeare ... or are fascinated by words and communication in general ... you need to go see "So What?" at Annapolis High School this weekend. Joe Thompson (a teacher at North County High) wrote a number of the one-acts featured in this show - and they are brilliant. Tickets are just $5. The show is Fri/Sat at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 1 pm. Recommended for high school students or older. The school is on Riva Road in Annapolis. Don't miss it!

From drawing and draping to styling and selling, Vosovic takes fashionistas through all of the steps involved in creating fashion. He not only shares his viewpoint as a designer, but also reveals advice and technical know-how from such industry giants as Diane Von Furstenberg, Todd Oldham, and Nina Garcia. Following the talk, Vosovic will sign copies of his new book, Fashion Inside Out: Daniel V’s Guide to How Style Happens from Inspiration to Runway and Beyond (Watson-Guptill Publications, 10/2008).

Parade of Lights Annapolis

The Eastport Yacht Club sponsors a holiday boat parade every December in the harbor between Annapolis and Eastport. Guests can watch the parade from the bridge off historic Main Street, but for a cozier spot, contact Carrol's Creek Cafe to see if you can get a dinner reservation. Richard Avedon's Photos Were Amazing!

I went to the Corcoran Art Gallery in DC earlier this week to see the Richard Avedon photography exhibit. As you enter the building, you can't help but notice Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was a politician at the time the photo was taken, but captured by Richard with that "don't mess with me" look on his face. This is a political photo exhibit - filled with photos taken just before Richard's death when he was covering the 2004 election process for The New Yorker. I won't spoil the exhibit by telling you everything about it. Suffice it to say - it's well worth the trip on the orange/blue line to Farragut West.

Capitol Steps Concert

The Capitol Steps is coming to Maryland just in time for the elections! If you haven't seen this musical political satire group perform, you're in for a side-splitting good time. The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who wanted to satirize the people and offices that employed them. Today, the group is a mixture of professionals and former House & Senate staffers who have recorded 28 albums. They will perform at 7 pm Sunday, October 26 at the Rouse Theatre in Columbia. Tickets are just $35 per person and are available online (see "links" on the right side of the blog). The October show will feature hits from their most recent album - Campaign and Suffering, including songs about our Presidential candidates and favorite political scandals of the year.
